Jordan River

As a tradition long ago the Meier family and friends started to float a section of the Jordan River the starting point at Raging Waters 1700 S and ends up at the State Fair grounds about North Temple. Most of the time we would get off work about 6:00 pm or so then be on the river about 7:00 pm. This is not your ordinary river for those that aren't familiar with the river most the time you see shopping carts, homeless people, muskrats, beavers, fish, dead ones too, old bikes, things in the water your not quite sure what it is,people fishing off the shores, port-a-potty, peoples shoes and clothing (maybe a body or two no we haven't see that yet), very old part of town that gives you a feeling that your not in Utah as some would describe it. Basically this is a river you don't even want to touch the water because you might get some sort of disease. One of the rule or maybe it is my rule you don't even pretend to splash the next boat that is how disguising the water is.
Any time I have been down the river no float trip is the same whether it's the time where Heather Petersen Ridge, Christina and I were in the same canoe and Christina's face went through a spider web because she didn't see it and the spider ended up on Heather. Heather standing up in the canoe trying to kill the spider with her paddle. Christina was crying and me yelling at the both of the to sit down and get control of them self so we don't go in the river (They both have phobias of spiders). Or the time when Kathyrn my sister and David Pruden a friend of ours went through the chute and both tiped in the canoe that was so funny. They stunk so bad we couldn't even stand to be by them in the car on the way home. I think that is the thrill of it so that is why we have always continued to do it.
Last Saturday Chris and I had a chance with some friends that have never floated the river before to experience the trip we had a great time. I sacrificed my body for a brand new football that was still in the wrapper that I guess someone accidentally threw in the river and got caught in the trees. I got knocked on my butt twice because of the branches and trees that are hanging really low on the river. I was laughing so hard I couldn't help Chris maneuver our way out of the trees so he did it by himself. Chris did a great job!!! I think two of my favorite things about the river is trying to guide your canoe or boat through the trees without getting attacked by branches or spiders or any other creatures that could be living in them. My other favorite part is the canoe chute that you have to go through at the end of the float trip. For those that have floated the trip before and didn't know this there is a sign a 1/2 mile before the canoe chute that says experienced canoers only. I just have to add sometimes when it comes to team effort Chris and I don't have the best communication we almost this time didn't make it through the chute where your canoe is suppose to fit through. It could have been a disaster meaning we almost ended up in the river. I wish we could have gotten a picture of it.

How romantic they are so cute!!!

Yeah Chris and I didn't get to put our arms up we were fighting
the current so we didn't go off the drop!!! I don't know how the first timers did so well!!!

Oh I am so excited because there is the river Chattahoocee (isn't that the greatest name for a river--hoocee) in Georgia and it is like the JR. We had a friend's sister go down and the water touch her and her skin started to turn color! Dude this river so calls my name now!

That looked like so much fun! I never knew you could do that!
