Grocery Shopping Obessed or a Hobby!

I have always thought of myself a good grocery shopper. I have always been like this since I have lived on my own, when we got married and more so since we have had a child. I'm aware of the cost of the items that I'm buying by shopping the sales, using coupons, or using two coupons if I can on an item. If the item is a good sale price or not. Now, I couldn't off the top of my head tell you your items that you buy, but maybe if we were in a grocery store I could probably tell you if it was a good price or not. I'm really surprised that sometimes people don't even know how much an item cost they just grab it off the shelf. I like to take my time in the grocery store. I do have my list and my ads in my hand and Morgan with me that sometimes does really good and not so good. If I know I'm going to be longer then an hour I will try to go to the store with out Morgan.

The reason why I'm bringing this all up was in February for our Enrichment night the topic was how to save money in meal planning, grocery shopping, and finances. It was a really fun night. I taught the grocery shopping part. I got some really great ideas and I learned a few things that I didn't even know before. I showed the ladies this video of this coupon mom shopping in the grocery store. I wanted to show people that it really isn't that hard to save money. I have a hard time paying full price for something and I have a hard time understanding why anyone would want to pay full price when you don't have too. Yeah you have to put a little effort into it, but really it helps your family out in the long run financial. I wanted to share it with you so can see what I do when I grocery shop. Now this ladies shopping is really extreme and I have never saved 81%, but I do get almost half of what I spend.

Today I went grocery shopping and they had some really good deals. A couple of you in the past have asked me what are the things that you are buying that makes you save so much money. Now I have to say this time around of grocery shopping the majority of the food is for food storage items that I like to stock up on. The most expensive item that I had on my list was Tyson popcorn chicken that I have never tried before it was on sale and I had a coupon for it. I'm going to make sweet and sour chicken with it. My sister Kathryn suggested that I try it for dinner.

My other extreme thing that I did was go to three grocery stores today. I normally would go to only one, but if Smith's or Ream's are having good sale items I will go to both.
All three stores were having some good sales. I did take Morgan to all three and she did really good for me. I was so surprise, but now I won't have to go to the store for awhile.

These are the items that I bought today how much it all cost and what I saved.

Albertson's ( which I rarely go to only if they have items that I buy and at a good price)
3 boxes of Kraft Mac Cheese $.49 with in store coupon.
BBQ sauce (which I never really buy, but I want it on hand for adding it to any sauces.
3 boxes of Capri Suns $3/5 never pay over $2.00 for a box of Capri Suns that is a rip off.
Spray n Wash $2/4 had a coupon
Kft miracle whip $2.99
Freschetta Pizza ( I don't like boxed frozen pizza this is the only brand I will buy $3.99 in store coupon
Tyson's Popcorn chicken $7.99 had a coupon

$3.00 off for buying items that the store was promoting.

Total $ 22.67
Saved $19.59

Reams
6 boxes of Cereal (buy three get three for free or something like that in store coupon.)
8 Yogurts wf 3 for $1.00
4 Powerades $.69
2 boxes Capri Suns $1.67 each
bananas $.49lb
strawberries $2.00( now I wouldn't have gotten these if I knew I was going to Smith's has them for $1.49)
Iceberg lettuce $.99

Total $ 25.70
Saved 17.19

Smith's
Kroger 3 boxes of fruit snacks I had a coupon
6 Yogurts $.40
2 pk Hunts snack pack I had a coupon
4 Pillsbury Rolls 4/$4.00 I had three coupons for this.
1 Crest toothpaste and toothbrush I had $1.00 off coupons for both
2 1 dz eggs $1.00 each
1 gallon of milk $1.49 good price I would have bought more, but didn't need too. I usually get 4 gallons of milk every time I go to the store.
Red Grapes $.99lb thats good but $.89lb is even better
More Strawberries $1.49 that is a good price for strawberries
3 Celery stix didn't know I could do that until my sister Lisa told me
I didn't have to buy the whole celery because we would waste it.
Popcorn was buy one get one free had a coupon that is my favorite. It makes it so you aren't paying full price for the one that you have to buy. I usually just buy the cheaper brand pop corn is pop corn to me.
Oreo Mini snack for Morgan $1.00 these usually last her a long time so it's worth it to me.

Total $25. 18
Saved 18.17

My total of all three stores $73.55

Total of savings that goes in my pocket $54.95
For us that is almost another week or two weeks of
grocery shopping money.

Now I don't want you to think that I'm bragging I'm just sharing with you my passion for saving money. I have never done this before, but I'm keeping all my food receipts because I want to see how much I'm saving my family every year. I have been adding them up month by month so I don't have to do it all at once when it comes to the end of the year.
True Testimony this can be done if you haven't ever try to shop sales, my friend started to do this and she is seeing little by little how much she is saving money and it's so fun to see her get all excited because of how much money she is saving. Now she looks at grocery shopping or clothes shopping differently. You can shop any where doesn't matter what store it is. Know when to buy the item you want. I also looked at it as I spending our money that my husband has worked for and I want it to go a long ways.
Wow,that was big post for me. I hoped you enjoyed this as much as I love saving money!!!

It's fun saving money. I am sad that Bethlehem doesn't have my favorite grocery stores because I am going to have relearn all the prices of what things cost there. Did you find a sweet and sour sauce yet?

Miss ~ I am impressed! I am one of those people who could not tell you the price of any items I buy but this makes me think I am probably getting worked by the grocery store. I only go to the base grocery store but I am going to start to try the coupon thing at least. So interesting. Anyway, I love you...so excited to see you soon. Rach

Oh My Gosh I am obsessed with Coupon Mom.com It works so much better in the east aka Georgia than in Utah, but I love that my food budget is so small, but I get so much! Dude Kathryn has three stores to go to. I am sure that ABE won't be too bad for coupons. Way to go Melissa!!!

Melissa!!!
I am completely impressed. I think I need lessons, care to come teach me. I don't think I get that many coupons. Well maybe I just don't notice. I think I do a pretty good job at saving money but maybe I am wrong! Anyway maybe you should take me to the grocery store with you!!
NICE WORK!!

Way to go Miss, I love saving money as well. I usually just go to one store, but buy according to the Ads and what is on sale.

It easy to save money when you have stores to shop. When there is only one grocery store in a 160+ mile area, makes for compare pricing a little more difficult. But it is still nice to save money.
